NIC Online: Poster Presentations

Online poster presentations at the 1st National Immunization Conference Online are selected based on abstracts submitted prior to the deadline (extended deadline: February 10, 2012).

Decision notices were sent via email to authors/presenters of all abstracts on March 1 and 2, 2012. Please contact the Conference Planning Team at 404-639-8225 or NIPNIC@cdc.gov if you submitted an abstract and have not received notice of a decision.

The information provided below should be beneficial as you prepare for your online poster presentation.

Poster Specifications

Posters should be submitted in PDF file format. Presenters may create their PDFs from graphic files (e.g., JPG or TIF), document files (Word, WordPerfect), and/or slide files (PowerPoint), among other files types. It is not necessary to produce a poster-sized document – presenters may choose the file sizes and dimensions that are most suitable to communicating their ideas and the results of their studies to viewers. Presenters needing assistance converting their files to PDF format should contact the conference planning team at NIPNIC@cdc.gov.

Presenters will have until March 18 to upload their files. A personalized upload link and instructions will be included when abstract decision notices are issued.

Guidelines for Creating Your Poster

Online poster presentations give you an opportunity to acquaint conference participants with the fundamentals of your program, special project, or study analysis quickly and easily. An online poster is a display that uses text, graphs, tables, charts and pictures to present the highlights of a subject. It should be designed to (1) catch the viewer's attention, (2) quickly acquaint the viewer with the basics of your subject and (3) make the viewer want to learn more.

The following are some general guidelines for creating your poster:

  • Keep text brief.
  • Do not use all capital letters for text. It is harder to read than upper and lower case.
  • Use graphics (charts, tables, illustrations, etc.) that can be understood in a minute or less.
  • Connect ideas so the flow of logic is clear.
  • Remember to describe all parts of your program, including analysis of why a program either worked or did not. The viewer should come away with some new knowledge or insights.

Presenting Your Poster

Posters that are accepted for presentation, including all uploaded files and abstracts, will be available for viewing online throughout the course of the conference (March 26–28, 2012) and beyond. Conference attendees viewing your poster will be able to contact you via email to ask questions about the information you present.
