Closing Comments

December 8, 2008: The Role of Nicotine Addiction in Tobacco Use

Following Committee member discussion, RADM Galson provided closing comments. He thanked the retiring public members of the Committee as well as staff from the Office on Smoking and Health who had organized the meeting. RADM Galson encouraged all those present at the meeting to think about what they can do—individually and collectively—to contribute to a solution to the complex problem of tobacco addiction and treatment. He also reiterated that strong federal leadership is important and that he would take what he had heard and learned from the day's meeting and do what he could to ensure that the information was shared with other decision-makers.

The meeting was adjourned.
