Global Tobacco Surveillance System Data (GTSSData)—Major Enhancements Released

The Global Tobacco Surveillance System Data (GTSSData) is a Web-based application that houses and displays data from four tobacco-related surveys conducted around the world. This surveillance data system was designed to enhance countries' capacity to monitor tobacco use, guide national tobacco prevention and control programs, and facilitate comparison of tobacco-related data at the national, regional, and global levels.

On March 13, 2012, GTSSData was updated to include several major enhancements to greatly expand methods for displaying survey data and improve the experience for users of the application. These enhancements include:

• A re-designed home page that, streamlines navigation to survey data by survey site or topic, provides easier access to survey resources such as Fact Sheets, and surfaces information about GTSS and the four surveys

• Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) data for India regions, states, and additional sites

• Interactive country maps for viewing all GATS data for India regions and states

• Interactive world maps for viewing national data from all four surveys

• Improved navigation within data tables and improved visual design of tabs and controls to make it easier to see options available for each table

• Analyzed Data in tables, graphs, and downloadable Excel files from the:
  • Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS)
  • Global School Personnel Survey (GSPS)
  • Global Health Professions Student Survey (GHPSS)
  • Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS)
• Downloadable datasets for all surveys
• Home Page design making it easy to select data by tobacco or MPOWER topic
• Ability to quickly switch between survey reports for a selected topic and location
• Fact Sheets and Country Reports with summaries of results by survey, location, and year
• Advanced Search with Year-by-Year Reports
• Published research related to the survey material
• Technical documentation related to policies and procedures of data collection
• Links to Partner sites
