2012 Funding (Year 3)
- Amount of funding: $300,000
- Description of Project
Awardee will:- Continue work on a community health assessment and begin a statewide health assessment
- Further develop the quality improvement/performance management system through staff training, hands-on exercises, and the implementation of three quality improvement initiatives: 1) reduce the time it takes to process new hires; 2) provide mini-grants to local health departments, district health offices, and central office programs for QI projects; and 3) review local health departments’ fiscal practices to decrease loss of funds through fraud or theft in local health departments
- Begin work on a state health improvement plan
- Continue to promote a competent workforce through training and the continued implementation of an electronic learning management system
2011 Funding (Year 2)

- Description of Project
Awardee will:- Develop and implement a web-based fetal death component that is capable of transmitting all fetal deaths facts and demographics within the state using the U.S. Standard Report of Fetal Death, the National Center for Health Statistics, and the National Association of Public Health Statistics and Information Systems standards; when combined with infant deaths and induced terminations, this will allow the Mississippi State Department of Health to present a better picture of pregnancy outcomes

- Focus on building, institutionalizing, and implementing performance management capacity within health departments
- Support full-time "Performance Improvement Manager" who will participate in a national network of performance improvement professionals supported by CDC
