2009 STEPS COMMUNITY HEROES AWARDS PROGRAM
The Steps Community Heroes Award is a CDC Healthy Communities Program
initiative that honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions
to improve the health and well-being of others in their communities. These
community leaders have contributed their time and expertise to make
significant changes in their communities, making them a healthier place to
live.
The honored Steps Heroes, representing a cross-section of society, were
selected from nominations made by the 40 CDC-funded Steps communities. The
selection process was challenging because all of the nominees made excellent
contributions to their Steps communities.
Four Community Heroes were selected and recently honored at the Steps
Program Managers Peer-to-Peer Meeting held in Atlanta, Georgia, June 1,
2009. The 2009 Steps Community Heroes Award
recipients include a school health liaison, a community leadership team
member, a health educator, and a fitness coordinator. Their contributions
helped improve their communities by enriching collaborative efforts to
reduce the burden of chronic diseases.
