Ohio: Injury Deaths among Children 0 to 19 Years of Age
- The number of unintentional injury deaths for the period 2000 – 2005 was 2,637; that is an average of 440 deaths per year.
- The unintentional injury death rate was 13.9 per 100,000 population; this was lower than the national rate of 15.0 per 100,000 population.
- Most injury deaths (66%) occurred among males 0 to 19 years of age.
- Children less than 1 year of age and those 15 to 19 years of age had the highest death rates of all age groups (32.3 and 29.6 per 100,000 population, respectively).
- Transportation-related injuries had the highest death rate among children 0 to 19 years of age in the state of Ohio (8.4 per 100,000 population).
