Call for Abstracts Deadlines

There will be one call for abstracts for this year’s conference. All abstracts (including MCH Professionals, Fellows, Students, Interns, Trainees, and CDC EIS Officers) are due by 11:59 p.m. PT on Friday, June 15, 2012.

Single Abstract for Oral or Poster Presentation

  • Oral presentations: Abstracts will be grouped into stand-alone symposia and presenters are given 10–15 minutes with additional time at the end of the session for questions and answers.
  • Posters: Presented during a special poster session.

Proposals for Symposia

Symposia are 90 minutes in length, and may be organized in a variety of formats including free-flowing town hall discussions, panel presentations on specific topics, or more detailed presentations by a single content presenter.

Symposia proposals that advance the work of the MCH epidemiology community might include new databases, theoretical or conceptual frameworks, biostatistical or epidemiologic methods or techniques, or focus on key programmatic or policy issues with a research component.

Proposals for Symposia MUST include the following for consideration and will be reviewed on the strength of the following items:

  • Title and speakers (including name, title, organization and presentation title, if applicable).
  • Learning objectives (at least three).
  • Brief description of the content and/or goals of the session.
  • Justification for inclusion in the conference as a symposium.
  • Proposed session moderator (session organizers must identify and arrange for a moderator).

If you are interested in submitting a Symposium proposal, please contact Maureen Fitzgerald at mchepireg@unmc.edu for further instructions and submission procedures.

Proposals for Workshops

Two types of workshops are being offered this year: Skill-building Workshops and Seminar Workshops. Both provide up to 90 minutes of in-depth information about a designated topic. Skill-building workshops focus on enhanced participant skills while Seminar workshops promote discussion. Both workshops require a justification (why is this topic necessary for the field and upon what evidence is this based?) to be considered.

More specifically—

  1. Skill-building workshops enhance skills necessary for the practice of the field of MCH epidemiology. Learning objectives are required and participants will leave the workshop with increased knowledge about a particular topical area.
  2. Seminar workshops are designed to promote sharing knowledge and experience associated with an identified topic with guided discussion by an expert in the field. Learning objectives are required and group participation is assumed.

NOTE: Submitters will have the option to request a 30 minute, 60 minute, or 90 minute session.

Proposals for workshops MUST include the following for consideration and will be reviewed on the strength of the following items—

  • Selected proposal type: Skill-building or Seminar Workshop.
  • Title of workshop and name of primary and copresenters.
  • Learning objectives (at least three).
  • Brief description of proposed session (300 word limit).
  • Justification for proposed session (250 word limit).
  • Biographical sketch for primary presenter.
  • Proposed session moderator (Session organizers must identify and arrange for a moderator).

If you are interested in submitting a workshop proposal, please contact Maureen Fitzgerald at mchepireg@unmc.edu for further instructions and submission procedures.
