Overview of the Office
The Office of the Associate Director for Program (OADPG) promotes continuous program improvement by working with CDC programs and external partners to achieve the greatest possible health impact through the promotion of evidence-based public health.
OADPG comprises:
- The Office of the Director (OADPG)
- The Performance and Accountability Unit
- The Program Evaluation Unit
- The Program Planning and Advancement Unit
- The Office of Women’s Health (OWH)
OADPG shares a close collaborative relationship with the Office of Minority Health and Health Equity (OMHHE) to ensure all CDC programs address health disparities, through planning, performance, accountability and program evaluation.
Key Goals of the Office
OADPG will make meaningful, recognized contributions to CDC program impact on population health by:
- Developing tools, promoting resources and sharing best practices that demonstrate how to achieve measureable improvements in program impact
- Promoting and achieving targeted reductions in health disparities
- Fostering a culture of program accountability and continuous improvement
- Accelerating CDC’s progress on winnable battles and other public health priorities
Primary Functions of the Office
- Provide CDC-wide direction, standardization and technical assistance for program planning, performance and accountability, and program evaluation
- Provide analytic and advisory assistance to enable effective design/re-design of programs
- Promote the thoughtful integration of performance measurement, goal setting and program evaluation in improving programs
- Prioritize women’s health issues and the elimination of health disparities
Performance and Accountability Unit
The primary functions of the Performance and Accountability Unit are to:
- Support and guide the use of performance measures in program monitoring (e.g., Healthy People 2020, PART/GPRA)
- Guide analysis and reporting of performance data in public reports and budget documents
- Support assessment of program effectiveness and impact, including the Prevention and Public Health Fund (PPHF)
Program Evaluation Unit
The primary functions of the Program Evaluation Unit are to:
- Set standards and expectations for agency-wide evaluation
- Deliver tools, technical assistance and resources to enhance evaluation efforts
- Provide support for evaluation capacity-building across CDC programs
Program Planning and Advancement Unit
The primary functions of the Program Planning and Advancement Unit are to:
- Support strong program strategy and continuous program improvement to achieve greatest health impact
- Promote and coordinate CDC’s Winnable Battles
- Conduct agency-wide Quarterly Program Reviews
- Provide technical assistance, tools and support for program design and funding opportunity announcement development
- Develop, promote and coordinate new program initiatives
Office of Women's Health
The primary functions of the Office of Women's Health are to:
- Promote the health, safety and quality of life for women and girls
- Advise CDC leadership of research, policy and program needs and opportunities to advance women’s and girls’ health
- Identify projects in women’s health that should be conducted or supported by the National Centers
- Consult with health professionals, organizations and others, as appropriate, with regard to women
- Develop and promote health messages, science, policy and strategies using best practices
- Develop, maintain or strengthen partnerships related to women’s health issues
