Success Stories: Alex

Name: Alex Rivera, Age: 32, Height: 6 feet 1 inch, Single, no children, enjoys playing soccer. After a knee injury, I decided I needed to be more active and make a lifestlye chnage.

My Physical Activity Routine/Program

I go to the gym every day at lunch to do my strength training. I work a combination of muscle groups each session. For cardio, I run at various places around the city for three to five miles, three times a week, and play soccer three times a week. I try to exercise every day, but recognize that my body needs a day or two off to recover.

Why I Started

After college, I blew out my knee. After my injury, I couldn't play soccer, and I just wasn't as active. As I was working to come back from my knee injury, I decided I needed to be more active and make a lifestyle change.

Benefits

The number one benefit for me is the energy I feel from being active. I work two jobs, and I still find time to fit it in. It keeps me feeling younger and helps keep me active.

How I Fit It In

I usually eat lunch at my desk and go to the gym every single lunch hour, every day. It helps to have a gym in my office building. I'll do my other activities and workouts before or after work and on the weekends.

Biggest Motivation

Once it becomes a lifestyle, it really isn't about motivation anymore. I'm in the groove, and it's part of my life.

Greatest Achievement/Biggest Thrill

Making physical activity part of my lifestyle. And, maintaining my weight loss for the last three to four years. At my worst point, I stopped working out for a couple years. I gained weight during that time and eventually was able to get it off. It feels good to know I've kept it off.
