Centers for Public Health Preparedness (CPHP)

The Preparedness and Emergency Response Learning Centers (PERLC) cooperative agreement represents the next iteration of the Centers for Public Health Preparedness (CPHP) program.

CDC's Centers for Public Health Preparedness (CPHP) program was established in 2000 to strengthen terrorism and emergency preparedness by linking academic expertise to state and local health agency needs. CDC set the strategic direction for the CPHP program, distributed resources through a cooperative agreement to support CPHP activities, ensured systems were in place to monitor performance and manage accountability, and coordinated the communication efforts among key stakeholders of the CPHP program. CDC's Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response, Learning Office, administered the CPHP cooperative agreement.

Since its establishment, the CPHP program grew to become an important national resource for the development, delivery, and evaluation of preparedness education. Within the CPHP program, universities provided preparedness education to public health workers, healthcare providers, students, and others. Centers for Public Health Preparedness were established within accredited schools of public health and worked in close collaboration with state and local health agencies and other partners to develop, deliver, and evaluate preparedness education.
