New and Improved PHIN Web Site

CDC is proud to announce the launch of the enhanced PHIN web site! After months of deliberating site architecture and design, PHIN is confident the community will find the improved site user-friendly and beneficial to stakeholders who diligently work towards improved public health through the use of informatics.

New PHIN Web Site Features:
  • Improved dynamic site navigation structure
  • Reorganized content for ease of use
  • Extensive collaborative forums for knowledge sharing and web site improvement
  • "QuickHits" navigation from the home page
  • PHIN community feedback page
  • News and Events section
  • Document Libraries
  • Up-to-date site content

Improved Dynamic Site Navigation Structure

The PHIN web site has been reorganized into 9 major categories, and each category contains specific content that pertains only to that link. To incorporate this feature, the site has been developed to utilize horizontal navigation menu, making navigating the site easier than ever before. In the top horizontal navigation menu you will find “Home, About, Resources, Activities, Forum, Library, Conference, New & Events, and Contact Us”. From here, the user is taken to a specific area of the site which contains a left navigation menu that is “content sensitive” and displays links to information that is only relative to the section of the site that the user is browsing.

Reorganized Content for Ease of Use

As a result of the vast array of content held within the PHIN web site, it was imperative to organize information in a simplified manor. In many regards, the original PHIN site was somewhat of a scavenger hunt--oftentimes quite cumbersome to quickly locate content. Now, through the use of a 3-tier navigation structure that utilizes a root-level horizontal navigation menu, along with a dynamic left navigation menu, the content has been structured to decrease the amount of time and effort experienced while utilizing the site.

Extensive Collaborative Forums for Site Improvement and Knowledge Sharing

Of the many robust features contained within the enhanced PHIN web site, one of the most exciting is the use of collaborative forums. At PHIN, it extremely important to focus on the needs of the community. Through leveraging the knowledge share of collaborative forums, improvements can be made continuously with the input of the entire community. We are excited to know your ideas! In contributing your thoughts and creativity to the vast array of forums located throughout the site, the PHIN site can grow to its fullest potential.

"QuickHits" Navigation Menu

The “QuickHits” drop-down navigation menu can be found on the home page and is another great feature of the new PHIN site. This menu was designed as a dynamic site map that displays the full site structure with the click of a button. Should a user have trouble locating a specific site page, the “QuickHits” navigation menu will surely be useful.

PHIN Community Feedback

Throughout the site, users will find on each page a link in the left navigation titled “Send us Feedback!”. The intent of this link is to provide users an arena to send comments and/or suggestions as to how the site can be improved. It is imperative to PHIN that a high quality, user-friendly, and informative site is in place for community use and collaboration

News and Events

The enhanced PHIN site now has a “News and Events” section that contains recent noteworthy news and event articles, as well as an archive of historical points of interest. As this area of the site will be updated on a routine basis, it is expected to become an area of focus for the PHIN community.

Document Libraries

The process of searching for specific documents on the PHIN site has been made more convenient through the creation of the “Library”. Within the Library are links titled “Frequently Accessed”, “Current Archive”, and “Historical Archive” which will make locating documents far more convenient.

Up-to-Date Site Content

One of the more challenging aspects of maintaining a large web site with such an enormous collection of content is ensuring content is always current and up-to-date. Various processes to ensure the accuracy of information were deployed during the development phase of the site.
