The ONC-Coordinated Federal Health IT Strategic Plan
2008-2012
The Plan sets forth a number of goals, objectives, and strategies that will guide the advancement of health IT throughout the federal government for the next five years.
Published 6.5.08 - Nationwide Health Information Network a critical portion of the national health IT agenda intended to provide a secure, nationwide, interoperable health information infrastructure that will connect providers, consumers, and others involved in supporting health and healthcare.

- American Health Information Community (AHIC): a federal advisory body, chartered in 2005 to make recommendations to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on how to accelerate the development and adoption of health information technology.
- American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA): US not-for-profit organization dedicated to the development and application of medical informatics in the support of patient care, teaching and research.
- American Public Health Association (APHA): the oldest, largest and most diverse organization of public health professionals in the world.
- Association of State and Territorial Health Officials: national nonprofit organization representing the state and territorial public health agencies of the United States, the U.S. Territories, and the District of Columbia.
- Council of State and Territorial Epidimiologists: a professional association of over 1050 public health epidemiologists working in states, local health agencies, and territories that works to establish more effective relationships among state and other health agencies.
- National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO): NACCHO is the national organization representing local health departments.
- The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC): provides counsel to the Secretary of HHS and Departmental leadership for the development and nationwide implementation of an interoperable health information technology infrastructure.
- Public Health Informatics Institute: brings public health professionals together so that they can learn from each other and share best practices.
- Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF): focuses on the pressing health and health care issues facing our country and works with a diverse group of organizations and individuals to identify solutions and achieve comprehensive, meaningful and timely change.
