2008 Activities
Doses Administered Exercise (DAX)
In the
event of an influenza pandemic, timely and complete reporting of
Pandemic Influenza vaccine doses administered will allow the federal
government and Project Areas to closely monitor the use of the
vaccine while it is in scarce supply. Following the successful pilot
test conducted during November – December of 2007, CDC and PHEP
Grantees (also referred to as Project Areas) are planning for a more
extensive exercise during the 2008 influenza season.
CDC and
Project Areas are planning to further test aggregate reporting
capabilities using seasonal influenza clinics as proxies for
pandemic influenza vaccine administration sites. The exercise will
increase the number of clinics, the frequency, and the volume of data
reported. In addition, new HHS priority groups will replace age
group in the aggregate reporting data set. The exercise will
evaluate technical systems for monitoring pandemic influenza vaccine
doses administered.
The purpose
of this exercise is to:
Test
and extend CDC’s and Project Areas’ ability to collect, report,
aggregate, and analyze a larger amount of doses administered data
using additional clinics and consecutive week reporting for a four week
period.
-
Operationalize new HHS priority groups for the General
Population category and its five tiers to test pandemic
prioritization
-
Accomplish timely data exchange between key parties
-
Identify and address federal, Project Area and clinic practices
and needs to scale-up for a pandemic
How the
2008 exercise is different from 2007 pilot:
-
Number of clinics and volume of data increases
-
Frequency of reporting increases
-
Priority group replaces the age group
-
CRA’s enhanced technical capability
-
Period of exercise for each project area is four consecutive
weeks between October 1 and December 31
All project
areas are requested to participate in the exercise. Requirements for
the exercise include:
Data expected by CDC from the Project Areas
-
Priority Group - Tiers 1-5 (as defined in pandemic General
Population category)
-
Project Area ID
Number
of Clinics and Frequency
Vaccine doses administered data from eight or more clinics over
four consecutive weeks, averaging at least two clinics per week.
Number of Reports
Doses administered data collectively aggregated from each week’s
clinics and submitted to CDC by end of day Tuesday of the
following week.
Time Frame
Clinic sessions should occur between October 1 and December 31,
2008.
