This year, the Public Health Informatics and Technology Program
Office (PHITPO) in partnership with the National Association of County
and City Health Officials (NACCHO), spearheaded a new online virtual
initiative - the Public Health Informatics 2011 Virtual Conference (PHIVC)
pilot project. The virtual conference served as an alternative for
partners to effectively experience activities and events simultaneously
with the in-person 2011 Public Health Informatics (PHI) conference. The
in-person conference was held in Atlanta, GA at the Hyatt Regency
Downtown, from August 21 through August 24, 2011. Featured content
included meaningful use of electronic health records, electronic
laboratory reporting, disease surveillance, and global health
initiatives.
The PHIVC was well received by in-person attendees as well as remote
attendees. At the end of the conference, there were 1, 865 total
registrations, 507 attendees, 232 session views, 288 booth entries, 260
document views, and 110 pre-shot video views. The PHIVC offered keynotes
and presentations from the physical event and presented the information
in a cohesive, forward-thinking and understandable way to remote
attendees. Everyone attending the physical PHI conference received
access to the PHIVC as part of their registration. There is no
substitution for the benefits that a physical conference offers;
however, there are some clear advantages to the PHIVC:
Conference audio, video and download materials will be archived and available starting October
26, 2011 on the Virtual Conference entry website. To access the plenaries, presentations and other content
from the in-person event, please login and/or register at the Virtual
Conference entry website by clicking the link below:
