Held July 8–9, the 2008 Leaders-to-Leaders Conference brought together leaders in government, healthcare, business, public health, faith-based organizations, education, and community action to identify and discuss health initiatives and policies that could have the greatest impact on improving health in America. This year’s conference theme, Shaping Policy for a Healthier Nation, highlighted the need to make health a central consideration in policy development.

Practices, Policies and Laws Affect Health

Policy making at all levels has the potential to affect health. For example, regional and individual business policies on transportation and telecommuting affect health by influencing how much sedentary time is spent in vehicles, the stress experienced from commuting, and even the quality of the air.
