Outreach Worker Skills and Competencies

It is helpful to clearly define the skills and competencies that outreach workers need to effectively and safely carry out their work.

The Center for HIV, Hepatitis and Addiction Training and Technology (CHHATT) worked with community-based organizations, researchers, and others, in 2000-1, to identify the key knowledge and skills that an outreach worker should possess. The resulting document Outreach Competencies—Minimum Standards for Conducting Street Outreachspells out the competencies that outreach workers need:
