Clinical Decision Support (CDS) is a process for enhancing health-related decisions and actions with pertinent, organized clinical knowledge and patient information to improve health and healthcare delivery.

Improving Outcomes with Clinical Decision Support: An Implementers Guide HIMSS 2012

CDS is a mechanism of managing information for medical care professionals by providing reminders and alerts using electronic health records and special computer programs. Clinicians using CDS programs in their clinic and medical practice receive patient-specific recommendations. Decision support includes reminders for medical tests, treatment guidelines, and alerts on patient drug allergies. The clinician also receives public health information for awareness about regional outbreaks
