Jane Gentleman, PhD (Director)
Dr. Gentleman completed her Ph.D. in Statistics at the University of Waterloo in 1973 and was a faculty member at Waterloo until 1982 when she moved to Statistics Canada. Then, in 1999, she moved to NCHS.
Jane is well known for her distinguished and wide ranging research publications in applied statistics, and as an outstanding leader in the statistical sciences. Her awards include being a Fellow of the American Statistical Association, an elected member of the International Statistical Institute, the winner of the first annual Janet L. Norwood Award in 2002 for Outstanding Achievement By A Woman In The Statistical Sciences, and a 2005 Faculty of Mathematics Alumni Achievement Medal from the University of Waterloo.
Jane has served as President of the Statistical Society of Canada, as President of the Caucus for Women in Statistics, and twice as Vice President of the American Statistical Association. Since her move to NCHS, she has been instrumental in organizing an annual meeting to bring together health statistics experts from the NCHS and Statistics Canada.
