Nedra Garrett, MS, is director of the Division of Informatics Practice, Policy, and Coordination (DIPPC) in the Public Health Surveillance and Informatics Program Office (proposed). As DIPPC director, she is responsible for multiple programs, including the Public Health Information Network, health information exchanges, Public Health Informatics Centers of Excellence, public health-clinical decision support, health IT standards and policies, and providing communication to support these activities.

Ms. Garrett worked at CDC for 11 years as an informatics health scientist in areas such as knowledge management, public health and clinical decision support, and other activities related to electronic health records. Her work focused on developing methods and techniques for capturing, forming, and disseminating knowledge from electronic health records and using innovative ways to glean knowledge from CDC’s massive stores of information.

Before coming to CDC, Ms. Garrett worked for 7 years at the Department of Defense as a systems analyst. While there, she was responsible for designing, developing, and managing clinical and administrative health information systems in both inpatient and ambulatory care settings.

Ms. Garrett has a master-of-science degree in health and human performance with emphasis in public and community health. Her bachelor-of-science degree is in computer science. She also is a graduate of the Public Health Informatics Fellowship Program.
