As a medical epidemiologist, Dr. Coronado served with the Division of Bacterial Diseases, Meningitis and Vaccine Preventable Diseases Branch before joining the Scientific Education and Professional Development Program Office in January 2011. In addition to working with the World Health Organization polio eradication programs in South East Asia, she has worked with Emory's Rollins School of Public Health and within several centers at CDC.

Dr. Coronado is a graduate of the Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) program and was assigned to the New York State Department of Health from 2003-2005. After completing her 2-year EIS training, she served as lead epidemiologist for CDC's student programs in the former Office of Workforce and Career Development.

Beyond her regular duties, Dr. Coronado has responded to several disasters and public health emergencies, including SARS and more recently the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic with deployments to Peru and Argentina.

Dr. Coronado, originally from Peru, earned her medical degree from the Higher Institute of Medical Sciences of Havana, Cuba. She completed a residency in general surgery at San Marcos Major University, Lima, Peru. In 2002, Dr. Coronado received her Master's in Public Health, Epidemiology from Rollins School of Public Health, Atlanta, Georgia.
