Lina Balluz, PhD ScD
Acting Director
Dr. Balluz is the acting branch chief for the Behavioral surveillance branch. She holds a doctorate degree in public health from Tulane University. She has been with CDC over 13 years working as an epidemiologist and researcher. In 2002 Dr. Balluz joined BSB as the team leader for the Survey Operation and Data Management Section. Prior to joining BSB she served as an epidemiologist in the Health Studies Branch at National Center for Environmental health. In 1995, she joined CDC as an EIS officer. Prior to CDC she worked in a supervisory capacity at the Louisiana Health Department and as a consultant for New Orleans City Health Department. Dr. Balluz has authored over 50 scientific articles with a focus on chronic diseases and she has been the recipient of numerous awards for her work in chronic disease prevention, health promotion and environmental health.
