Updated NPHPSP Instruments
Since late 2005, CDC and the NPHPSP partners have
been engaged in updating the three NPHPSP instruments.
The general purpose was to ensure that the standards
reflect current public health practice. The update
activities also included some streamlining and other
changes to improve the user-friendliness of the
tools. To ensure a practice-driven process, the
updates were guided by work groups comprised of
state health agency leadership, local public health
officials and local board of health members.

The new versions of the three instruments were
field tested in a limited number of sites and have
been submitted to OMB for approval of data collection.
We anticipate receiving OMB approval for data collection
later in 2007. In the meantime, to preview the new
instruments, please

and boards of health to begin using these updated
instruments for planning purposes.
The 2007 NPHPSP Annual Training Workshop will
orient users to the revised instruments; this practical
training is scheduled for June 26-27. Location and
registration information will be available soon.
