Health Care Providers Course
September—December 2009

Specially scheduled AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Provider courses are being provided exclusively for Atlanta based Commissioned Corps Officers to help them meet deployment readiness policy requirements. Officers who are assigned to other agencies or outside the Atlanta area may wish to visit the Atlanta COA website for alternate training classes or American Heart Association or contact OCCP staff at 404-498-1800 for additional information.

Course Overview

The BLS for Healthcare Providers Course is designed to teach the skills of CPR for victims of all ages (adult and pediatric) including ventilation with a barrier device, bag-mask ventilation, use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction for the responsive and unresponsive victim.

This course is for those persons whose certification is current. This is a shorter and faster paced course. Registration and Attendance

Remember to please be courteous to your fellow officers. If you cannot attend a BLS class which you registered for, please contact the Lifestyle Office so that they may fill your spot with an Officer on the wait list.

  1. E-mail the Lifestyle Program life@cdc.gov with:
    • Your name
    • Your work phone and CDC mailstop
    • If you are registering for a "RENEWAL" course, fax (404-639-4075) a copy of your card or let us know what class date you last took a course with Lifestyle (if appropriate) and we will look up your information.
  2. The Lifestyle Program Office will e-mail you back with confirmation or waiting list information. (For a renewal course we will e-mail you with confirmation once we've confirmed your "current" status).
  3. Approximately 2-3 days before the course, participants will receive a "pre-course instruction" e-mail that will contain directions and information on what to bring /and do before coming to class . If you do NOT receive the pre-course instruction e-mail, contact the Lifestyle Office immediately as you will need to read this e-mail before coming to class as there is a short assignment to do.

Please make sure that when you sign up for a course, you write or put it on your own calendar! It is very important that you let us know if you aren't going to be able to attend a course so that we can add someone that might be on the waiting list!
