Annual Influenza Immunization
Flu season is upon us! All Commissioned Corps Officers are required to have an influenza immunization annually to meet Basic Force Readiness requirements. Last year, the requirement was waived through November 1st, 2005. The Corps has not announced a waiver extension at this time.
Officers with a PCM at the Emory Clinic who are Medical, Dental, Nurse, Therapist, and Pharmacists categories should make an appointment with one of the locations of Emory Clinic to receive the flu vaccine for 2005/06. The location does not have to be the same one as your Primary Care Manager (PCM). The Emory Clinic at 1525 Clifton Road does not have appointments available for flu shots until November 2nd, 2005.
Officers in Atlanta not in one of the above categories can receive their flu shot through the CDC Occupational Health Clinic’s flu prevention campaign beginning October 26th – see schedule below**.
Please Note: The CDC Occupational Health Clinic has requested that Atlanta Commissioned Officers in a clinical category seek their flu shot through Emory Healthcare to the greatest extent possible and that officers in a clinical category not seek a flu shot through the clinic prior to November 2nd. This request is to help the clinics avoid being overwhelmed by Commissioned Officers.
Officers assigned outside of Atlanta should request a flu shot from their PCM or MTF. If unavailable, please check for other sources in your location (Federal Occupational Health, local health department, embassy health unit, or commercial sources).
Officers are required (1) to log on the OFRD web site and record your flu shot date in your immunization record AND (2) to provide the Medical Affairs Branch (MAB) with "proof of immunization.” To facilitate the reporting requirement, you may use one of the immunization records below.

Officers should not receive the flu shot if they have a medical condition that may affect their health status if administered. Those officers should seek a permanent or temporary waiver, as appropriate, through the Medical Affairs Branch. See Manual Circular PHS No. 377 (PDF) for details.
Please contact CDR Dan Cline for any questions/concerns regarding the influenza immunization or if you have difficulty obtaining a flu shot.
