Thank you for your patience as we went about rebuilding our team, allowing others to move forward to enhance their careers. As a result of the addition of our new team members, we also have revised our staff CIO assignment (see table below).

CAPT Jay Seligman — Deputy Director
CAPT Jay Seligman began serving as the new Deputy Director, Commissioned Corps, effective April 16, 2012. As deputy, CAPT Seligman works with the Commissioned Corps Director in providing leadership and oversight for all matters pertaining to the Commissioned Corps. In this capacity, he will serve as a senior subject matter expert on Commissioned Corps policies and procedures; as the focal point facilitating Commissioned Corps personnel actions; and provide oversight of the recruitment process.
CAPT Seligman has over 17 years of federal healthcare leadership experience. He has worked with the United States Air Force, Federal Bureau of Prisons, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Health Resources Services Administration, and DHHS Office of Public Health and Science. In his most recent position, he was detailed to the United States Marshals Service as a Commissioned Corps Liaison, where he was responsible for overseeing a $60 million prisoner healthcare program. CAPT Seligman received his Masters of Social Work from Florida State University and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. In 2006, Nova Southeastern University conferred upon him the degree of Doctor of Health Science. Please join us in welcoming CAPT Seligman to CDC.
CDR Abnnah Forbes — Commissioned Corps Staff Specialist
CDR Abnnah Forbes began serving as a Commissioned Corps Staff Specialist, effective June 1, 2012. In his new capacity he will serve as the Commissioned Officer Effectiveness Report (COER) SME and service several CIO’s. CDR Forbes recently served as a Health Scientist and Team Lead for the Clinician Communication Section in the Emergency Risk Communication Branch, Division of Emergency Operations (DEO) here at the CDC, where he lead a team of multi discipline staff members who were essential in establishing and maintaining communications between CDC and over 181 National Partner organizations and over 45,000 individual subscribers to various communication channels that were utilized in every CDC activation.
CDR Forbes has over 20 years of uniform service experience in the healthcare field. CDR Forbes received his Masters of Physician Assistant from the University of Nebraska and is a board certified physician assistant. He has worked with the US Coast Guard, Federal Bureau of Prisons and Immigrations and Customs Enforcement prior to joining CDC. His various positions include Senior Physician Assistant with the Bureau of Prisons and U.S. Customs and Immigrations Services. During these tours of duty he provided healthcare to adult and pediatric patients and served as the Emergency Preparedness Officer for the Health Services Department with both federal agencies. CDR Forbes also served as the medical officer for the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) for the US Penitentiary in Atlanta, GA. He has received numerous USPHS awards during his career and has presented at professional public heath conferences while at the CDC. Please join us in welcoming CDR Forbes to the team!
