Attention Commissioned Officers and Civil Service Colleagues:
The USPHS Scientific and Training Symposium
is scheduled to be held May 24—27, 2010, in San Diego, California. This conference is identified as a HHS Public Health Conference and subject to HHS conference travel rules. However, unlike other public health conferences requiring HHS approval, the Assistant Secretary for Administration and Management (ASAM) will pre-approve a specific number of attendees per HHS Operating Division. The Office of Surgeon General (OSG) will disseminate all relevant information regarding this conference to all Agency Commissioned Corps Liaisons when it becomes available. To date, we have not received any guidance as to what the CDC/ATSDR allocation will be. Government employees (Commissioned Corps and civil servants) are reminded—use of government funds towards this conference is not authorized until you have received approval from the CDC Commissioned Corps Personnel Office (CCPO). To prepare for this conference, we are developing a list of attendees, which will be vetted through CCPO for consideration of attendance. Please note, until you have received confirmed approval of your attendance—providing your individual information "is a request to attend," and not a guarantee of attendance.
