The first Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974 governs essential protections against pollutants, dangerous bacteria, and other contaminates in the drinking water supply.   Local governments, public water systems, the States, and the Environmental Protection Agency work together to ensure that all public water supplies are thoroughly inspected and safe.

The average age of the U.S. population has been increasing throughout this century.  There are currently more than 33 million people ages 65 and older living in the United States, and that number is expected to double by the year 2030.   Public health ensures that hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and other facilities offer proven, quality care for the aging American population.
