Compositions and Methods for Detecting Adult Taenia solium Methods for the detection of adult Taenia solium and the diagnosis and treatment the infection are described in this invention. Taenia solium is a species of tape worm, the intestinal infection with which is referred to as Taeniasis. Many infections are asymptomatic but may be characterized by insomnia, anorexia, abdominal pain and weight loss. Cysticercosis is the formation of cysticerci in various body tissue resulting from the migration of the T. solium larvae out of the intestine. The infection with T. solium is itself not dangerous but cysticercosis can be fatal. The methods detect one or more adult T. solium polypeptides which can be useful for the detection of adult tapeworm infection.
