Modified Cardiolipin and Uses Therefor

Cardiolipin is an antigen used in a test for syphillis. In the rapid lateral flow immunochromatographic test format, the detecting antigen needs to be protein in nature because protein has the property of readily attaching to nitrocellulose. There is no affinity for natural cardiolipin to attach to nitrocellulose. In this invention, natural cardiolipin was modified for the purpose of attaching to a carrier protein such as biotin-avidin, bovine serum albumin, or keyhole limpet hemocyanin.
