Rapid Method for Molecular Differentiation of Chlamydia Trachomatis Biovars (Strains) Infections caused by Chlamydia trachomatis are among the most prevalent sexually transmitted diseases in the United States. Infections may lead to pelvic inflammatory disease and infertility. Methods to identify and differentiate molecular types are critical for determining appropriate treatment. Currently, differentiation requires several days. This invention may differentiate C. trachomatis biovars in less than an hour while patients are waiting in the clinic.
