Pneumococcal Fimbrial Protein A Disease caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus) is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in the United States and developing countries. Pneumococcal disease is very prevalent among the very young, the elderly, and immunocompromised persons.
