(STOP) Teams

Data Manager
Positions

Together we will be polio free logo
At a glance: The Stop Transmission of Polio (STOP) Activity Unit is recruiting for Surveillance Data Managers to participate on STOP teams. The World Health Organization (WHO) is placing Data Managers to work on Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) and Integrated Disease Surveillance (IDS) information systems at the national level in Asia and Africa.

General Overview:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is assisting WHO and Ministries of Health in upgrading their methods of storing and analyzing surveillance data. Data Managers are being deployed to countries in the developing world to assist in utilizing Epi-Info Windows version to record and analyze data. Primary responsibilities are to implement data entry screens, conduct analysis, and generate reports utilizing Epi-Info.

Project Requirements:

Volunteers are sought who are technically savvy in the use of computer-based disease surveillance systems. They will need to:

  • utilize the surveillance system for creating data entry screens, handling data management functions, and performing analyses
  • be knowledgeable about vaccine-preventable disease surveillance and analysis issues
  • have experience in more complex data management and statistical analysis issues
  • work closely with local staff and provide training and support in the implementation of the software

It is important that data managers become thoroughly familiar with Epi-Info for Windows. [The latest version of Epi-Info can be downloaded from http://www.cdc.gov/epiinfo/.] This assignment will include aspects of developing data entry screens, developing data quality controls, and developing output reports and ad hoc analyses using Epi-Info for Windows. It is also preferable for data managers to be familiar with Geographical Information Systems (GIS) programs.

STOP Data Managers need to be self-starters, very flexible, and work well under difficult conditions with people of different cultures.

Summary:

This project would require experienced data managers or data analysts that either currently know Epi-Info Windows version or can learn Epi-Info Windows version quickly. Familiarity with GIS is also helpful. Data managers/analysts fluent in French are in high demand.
