Workshop 4: Qualitative Risk Assessment Chair: The workshop will focus on the qualitative assessment of dermal exposure risk to chemicals via each of the three recognised exposure pathways – immersion, deposition and surface contact. A white paper titled ‘Process Based Qualitative Risk Assessment’ has been written as a background document for all participants. View it here. The workshop will consider the usefulness and difficulties of qualitative assessment for each pathway using three case studies and give close consideration to how simple routine checks can provide a simple and cost effective means of demonstrating the effectiveness of control approaches. Each case study presentation will take about ten minutes and will be followed directly by approximately twenty minutes of structured discussion before moving on to the next case study. The workshop will conclude with approximately twenty minutes of structured discussion to develop a summary of the views expressed for incorporation into a subsequent discussion paper.
