OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SAFETY NETWORK (OHSN)
Standard Data Elements
The following data elements are required for participation in the OHSN Healthcare Personnel Traumatic Injury modules:
- Information about the worker involved in the event
- Age (or year of birth)
- Occupation category
- General event/incident information
- Event ID
- Event location
- Event type
- Injury/illness severity (OSHA reportable?)
- Supplemental information for slip, trip, or fall (STF) events
- Primary hazard contributing to STF
- Supplemental information for workplace violence (WPV) events
- Perpetrator’s possible cause (contributing factor) of WPV
- Supplemental information for patient handling movement (PHM) events
- Work activity at time of PHM event
Standard Value Sets
We have worked with stakeholders to develop standard value sets (lists of response options) for each of these data elements.

Denominator Data
Denominator data for each facility are obtained from the American Hospital Association annual survey. These data can be updated by each facility in the OHSN system as needed.
- Number of employees in each occupation category (FTEs)
- Number of licensed beds
- Number of annual inpatient admissions
