NIOSH Prevention through Design Strategic Goals

Goal 2.0: Designers, engineers, machinery and equipment manufacturers, health and safety (H&S) professionals, business leaders, and workers understand PtD methods and apply this knowledge and skills to the design and re-design of new and existing facilities, processes, equipment, tools, and organization of work.

Intermediate Goal 2.3: Influence business leaders and administrators to include safety design education and experience in engineering and architecture position descriptions

2.3.1 Identify the top 500 design/engineering firms in the U.S. Develop a message to influence these firms to include PtD principles in their designs.

2.3.2 Identify and influence engineering firms recognized for their “sustainable design” activities to include PtD skills in their position descriptions.

2.3.3 Raise PtD awareness with the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) and Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS).

2.3.4 Develop a social marketing campaign demonstrating the value of integrating PtD principles into business management decisions by developing sector-specific social marketing messages about the value of preventing injuries, illnesses, fatalities, and exposures to the employees.
