Community Partners for Healthy Farming Intervention Research

The purpose of the Community Partners for Healthy Farming Intervention Research Program (Community Partners) is to implement and evaluate existing or new interventions for preventing work-related injuries, illnesses, and deaths in agriculture. Agriculture ranks among the most hazardous industries in the U.S. These projects are funded by NIOSH cooperative agreements. They were selected for funding from competitive applications submitted in response to a NIOSH request for applications for such community-based interventions. Prior and current projects involve active partnerships among experienced researchers, local communities, workers, managers, agricultural organizations, agribusinesses, and other stakeholder. These partners contribute their unique expertise and resources in all phases of project development, implementation, and evaluation. Previously-funded Community Partners interventions successfully reduced hazards, were acceptable to workers and management, and furthered work safety while maintaining production. Some are being adopted regionally or nationally. Products from this program have included useful engineering controls, and educational and motivational materials.
