Activities of the NORA Wholesale and Retail Trade Sector Council

Council activities are outlined below. Contact the Sector Coordinator with any questions or comments.

July 2008
Third meeting. Presentations updated members on the Cost Burden of Occupational Injuries, the report of Council members on Working with Employers, Owners, and Employees following visits to local businesses, opportunities for collaboration arising from the Transportation, Warehousing, and Utilities Sector Goals, and the NIOSH program's Prevention through Design Draft Strategic Goals. Workgroups will consider key actions to be taken in the following issue areas: Benchmarking, Exhibits, Grants, Violence, Materials Handling, and Tailoring for Small Business.

July 2007
Second meeting (following the Prevention through Design workshop). Presentations updated members on The Business Case for Safety, Measuring Performance: Benchmark Considerations, and Saving the Back: NIOSH's new Ergonomic Guidelines for Manual Materials Handling. A discussion identified goals and objectives that can be "readily implemented to make a difference" in the sector.

November 2006
First meeting to outline sector issues, identify key stakeholder organizations for possible participation, and plan future actions. Workgroups formed to consider priorities in the following topic areas: Motor Vehicle, Musculoskeletal Disorders, Violence, and Falls.
