Council activities are outlined below. Contact the Sector Coordinator with any questions or comments.
March 2009
Fifth meeting to work on finalizing the sector agenda and start implementation. Formulated plans to address remaining agenda changes needed. Discussed methods for disseminating the agenda to stakeholders. Worked on prioritizing goals to be addressed first in the implementation plan. Divided into eight industry subsector workgroups to approach further implementation plan development tasks and continued the process of identifying potential partners for implementing and achieving goals.
July 2008
Fourth meeting to address comments received on the draft agenda which has been posted for public comment. Plans were made for proceeding forward with goal revisions following the close of the public comment period and for development of an implementation plan. Council members will be working on identifying and engaging potential partners in preparation for designing the implementation plan.
March 2008
Third meeting to refine workgroups' draft goals and discuss future activities. Each of the four strategic area workgroups refined their strategic goal and the corresponding intermediate and activity/output goals with input from the full Council. Plans are in place for the draft national strategic plan for the sector to be made available for public comment soon.
September 2007
Second meeting to draft strategic and intermediate goals. Workgroups were formed in the four strategic topic areas of traumatic injuries, work-related musculoskeletal disorders, health and wellness, and occupational exposures to chemicals and other stressors. Each workgroup will draft a complete version of its portion of the strategic plan.
November 2006
The first TWU sector council meeting was held to outline TWU sector issues, identify additional key stakeholders for possible participation, and plan future actions. During this inaugural meeting, participants identified the following areas of concern to be addressed in the TWU research agenda: Motor vehicle and air crashes, musculoskeletal disorders, fatigue, falls, machine safety, health effects of occupational exposures, TWU worker health and wellness, health and safety management, and health communication.
