The Oil and Gas Extraction sector comprised over 300,000 paid workers in 2005. These workers face risks that include motor vehicle crashes, overexertion, chemicals, and shift work. NIOSH has begun a program of work in this sector and expects to form a Sub Council in 2008.
A goal of the NORA Oil & Gas Extraction Sub Council will be to identify the most salient needs of this diverse sector. We seek to facilitate the most important research, understand the most effective intervention strategies, and learn how to implement those strategies to achieve sustained improvements in workplace practice.
Join the Sub Council as a Member or Corresponding Member. We will seek Sub Council membership that is broad-based and of workable size. Members will form the core of the group. Corresponding members will be kept informed of activities, provide input on issues to be discussed, and review draft documents. Some Corresponding Members may be asked to join workgroups on specific topics. Contact the Coordinator of the NIOSH Oil & Gas Program with any question or comment or to volunteer.
