September 2009
Third meeting to refine the preliminary draft goals. The four workgroups met to refine their research priorities and receive feedback from the full Council. Under consideration are strategic goals for preventing illnesses, fatalities caused by motor vehicle crashes, injuries caused by workers being struck by objects, harmful chemical exposures, and fatal and nonfatal injuries overall.
February 2009
Second meeting to refine the key safety and health issues previously identified. The four workgroups met to report on progress, refine their research priorities and develop an action plan for the next 6-12 months. In addition, the Council began to define strategic goals for preventing such health outcomes as illnesses, fatalities caused by motor vehicle crashes, and injuries caused by workers being struck by objects.
July 2008
First meeting to identify and prioritize key safety and health issues in the oil and gas extraction industry. Four topical areas emerged from this list: Workforce Issues, Operations, Information - Regulatory/Industry Associations, and Education and Training. A workgroup was established for each topical area. The workgroups will begin drafting a research framework with goals and action items.
February 2008
A preliminary meeting of the council was held to outline subsector issues, identify key stakeholders for possible participation, plan future actions, and prepare for the first full meeting. Participants began to develop a list of research issues that should be considered by the council in the development of the Oil and Gas Extraction Sub Council Strategic Plan. Topics discussed included: injuries, worker and supervisor training, safety management practices, data collection, and worker turnover.
