Abstract
The University of Puerto Rico MS Industrial Hygiene training Program trains industrial hygienists for the growing need of these professionals, particularly on the Island. Students are required to complete a 2-year curriculum comprised of an industrial hygiene core, supplemented by public health and environmental health courses. Thirteen students with NIOSH support completed the requirements for degrees during this project period; five others are currently enrolled. Other program objectives achieved during this period include the implementation of the new industrial hygiene program, recruitment of a new full-time faculty member, ABIH certification for one faculty member, and the appointment of a Program Advisory Board. NIOSH training grant significantly impacted the training quality of the IH program at the University of Puerto Rico during this period. NIOSH funds provided for needs such as student traineeships, laboratory equipment, literature resources and faculty travel.
