Abstract
Copper porphyry ores are mined in place by an in situ leach technique using a mixture of dilute h2so4, o2, and an alkali metal salt. The cu, fe, and s contents of the ore were 1.1, 3.4, and 1.0 pct, respectively. The ore was crushed to 3/8-in diameter in contact with a solution of 1m h2so4 and 3.3M nacl and leached for 64 h at 100 deg c and 200 psi o2 pressure to yield cu 83 and fe 4 pct in the extraction.
