Abstract
Proton nuclear magnetic resonance (nmr) longitudinal relaxation in reservoir rock containing water is recognized as an indicator of rock permeability within a given reservoir. Cylindrical sandstone core samples, 1 inch long by 0.75 Inch in diameter, from several different Appalachian area reservoirs, were cleaned, dried, and saturated with a 14 m solution of licl in distilled water. In this study, it appeared that 7li relaxation was a better predictor of surface area/pore volume ratio (and thus of permeability) than 1h relaxation.
