Abstract
Nuclear magnetic resonance (nmr) longitudinal relaxation times (t1's) of lithium nuclei were measured in porous porcelain media containing solutions of lithium chloride in water. For constant salt concentration, 1/t1 for 7li was found to be proportional to the specific surface area of the media. For constant specific surface area, t1 (7li) decreased with increase in concentration within the range studied, while t1 (6li) did not vary significantly with concentration. The results are discussed in terms of chemical exchange between bulk phase ions and ions in electrical double layers near the solid surface.
