Abstract
This report deals with an industrial engineering study of face haulage practices in retreat mining of pillars in underground coal mines using the room-and-pillar mining method. A statistical analysis of accident data was performed to determine the extent of the risk of fatal accidents related to face haulage activities. Various types of cyclical and continuous-haulage systems and equipment were evaluated and recommendations for future research and development were made.
