Abstract
The Federal Coal Mine Health and Safety Act of 1969 established mandatory dust sampling of coal mines according to procedures prescribed in the mandatory health standards, title 30, code of federal regulations, part 70, published in the federal register on April 3, 1970. A laboratory was established in the Pittsburgh field health group of the Bureau of Mines to process the coal mine dust samples collected by the mine operators. This paper describes the laboratory and presents the equipment and procedures used in processing these samples.
