Abstract
Undoubtedly the most efficient reactor for refining metals continuously would be a counter-current reactor in which the metal and refining slag streams flow counter-current to each other, with both the ascending gas streams. Such a system has been modeled, and interesting results have been obtained. Optimum conditions are being determined to achieve high mass transfer rates from metal to slag and still maintain a low longitudinal mixing.
