Abstract
Design criteria for a diesel aerosol sampler based on size-selective sampling are (1) size separation of 0.8 +/- 0.1 Um, (2) sharpness of the size separation measured by a geometric standard deviation of 1.05, and (3) a sample flow rate of 2 l/min. A priori performance for diesel-aerosol sampling using size-selective techniques is limited to a lower limit of detectability of 0.3 Mg/m3 if gravimetric analysis to 0.1 Mg is used. A projected prototype sampler using inertial impaction can sample aerosol in the specified size range with a lower limit of detectability of 0.2 Mg/m3.
