Abstract
The U.S. Bureau of Mines is conducting research on technology that will allow mining companies to develop methods of extraction that will keep them competitive on world mineral markets into the 21st century. One research effort is the advanced mining systems program. A major focus of the Bureau's research of advanced mining systems is the development of in situ leach mining methods. An important part of this research will be an in situ copper mining field test near Casa Grande, Arizona. To support the field test, the Bureau is conducting a comprehensive in-house research program.
