Abstract
This Bureau of Mines paper reviews the extractive metallurgy of gold, starting with the introduction of cyanide leaching in 1887. Cyanidation procedures involving the loading and stripping of gold from activated carbon are described. Recent developments including treatment of refractory ores, biological processes, and alternative leachants are summarized.
